CCTV protection needed for taxis

MORE taxi cabs in Corby will be fitted with CCTV cameras in an attempt to cut the number of attacks on drivers.
Several black cabs in the town are already fitted with cameras and now funding has been made available for between 12 and 15 more to try to protect cabbies.

Suspect in Blackburn nightclub attack caught on CCTV

POLICE have released CCTV of a suspect they want to question about a nightclub attack which was sparked by a row over a test of strength machine.

Gareth Fitzsimmons had been using the games machine on which players pay £1 to thump a punch bag three times in The Liquid and Envy nightclub, St Peter Street, Blackburn.

He beat the score set by two men and they turned on him, police said.

Real-time bus CCTV cameras trialled

Transport for London (TfL) has begun a trial of CCTV cameras on buses that relay real-time images to a central control room.

The six month trial will be on 21 buses on an undisclosed route in north London. The real-time images will be monitored by TfL and the Metropolitan Police.

Council kicks in £300,000 for more CCTV in South Gloucestershire

IMPROVED surveillance cameras are to be installed throughout South Gloucestershire in a crackdown on crime and anti-social behaviour.

The equipment will be provided through a £300,000 cash injection from South Gloucestershire Council, which wants to have state-of-the-art CCTV cameras covering areas where local people have complained about bad behaviour.

CCTV centre ‘a success’

A new CCTV centre covering the Halifax area has had a noticeable impact on crime within its first two months, according to operators.
The Calderdale Communication Facility has provided police with evidence to secure more than 65 arrests.

Cases have ranged from robbery and breach of Asbos to serious assault and criminal damage.

Calls for more CCTV cameras in IOM

MORE CCTV cameras should be installed in the Isle of Man to cut crime, an MHK has argued.
Bill Henderson (Douglas North) said they were an ‘invaluable tool’ for police.

He made his comments in Tynwald last week as members discussed the chief constable’s annual report.

Although the report showed that crime had fallen in the past year, Mr Henderson said the Island needed CCTV cameras.

Women dice with death on M6

Motorway police have had to deal with two women spotted walking down the central reservation of the M6.

The women, twin sisters from Sweden, ran in front of oncoming traffic after wrestling with the police.

Both women have since recovered.

A botched daylight bank job by four robbers has been caught on CCTV

The footage shows a masked man trying to smash the bank’s window with a sledgehammer while the other three watch.

Unable to smash the glass, the men give up and escape empty-handed in a maroon Laguna estate, which was later found abandoned and burnt out.

Police search CCTV for coin thrower

Aston Villa and West Midlands Police were yesterday continuing their search to identify the thug who struck the assistant referee Phil Sharp with a coin in Saturday’s draw with Portsmouth at Villa Park.

Villa said the person responsible would be banned for life for cutting Sharp’s forehead and are confident CCTV footage will help pinpoint the culprit in the Trinity Road stand.

THE ‘TALKING’ CCTV cameras in Redditch town centre could be scrapped next year if they fail to prove their worth, the leader of Redditch Borough Council told The Standard this week.
